[Beneficiary] Gawad Kalinga

[Beneficiary] Gawad Kalinga

In the previous years, our beneficiary has been Gawad Kalinga. Proceeds from the 2nd Philippine Kpop Convention went to the Kalinga sa Bayan campaign particularly to fund the activities for the 2011 Bayani Challenge in Bantayan Island in Cebu. This year, we will extend our cause to animal welfare in our country through the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS).

Typhoon Sendong GK Operation Walang Iwanan Activated!

December 23, 2012

It is barely two days before Christmas, and our teams are still hard at work for GK Operation Walang Iwanan.  As of today we have established our operation centers and  distribution network  delivering relief to three most badly hit cities, Dumaguete, Cagayan de Oro and Iligan.

We are focusing on three modes of intervention during this relief stage of the response:

1. Delivery of relief goods to remote areas

2. Establishing 3C (child care centers) in selected evacuation centers where we conduct feeding and play therapy to victims

3. Establishing a soup kitchen in selected areas.

We hope that the relief stage of the response will not be prolonged.  We are already evaluating options for relocation sites together with the appropriate government agencies.

We would like to honor all our partners who have contributed generously, and our volunteers who continue to share their time throughout this holiday season to bring hope to the victims.  There is still so much more to be done, and we appeal to everyone to be our brothers keepers.

Thank you for this act of solidarity.

In behalf of Team GK,

Luis Oquinena

Gawad Kalinga activated Sunday, 18 December, Operation Walang Iwanan to respond to the affected areas of Cagayan de Oro, Iligan and Dumaguete in the wake of the devastation wrought by tropical storm Sendong (international name : Washi). Unofficial reports cite the death toll as of 8am December 20 to be 823.
Team GK is fully mobilized to respond and support teams on the ground in bringing hope and help where it is needed the most. The target is to distribute 5,000 food packs in the next two days as well as provide feeding and medical attention to affected communities.
We appeal to everyone to help by donating in cash or in kind, or joining our relief operations as a volunteer.  Every small bit counts, and if we all do it together, we can make this a meaningful Christmas not just for the families who have lost everything, but for ourselves as well.
